
She is the founder and director of Mira Latina, an organization dedicated to exchange, education, and the strengthening of ecosystems of creation, critical thought, and regional articulation.
She has served as a juror, mentor, and speaker for prestigious international institutions and awards such as World Press Photo, CatchLight, the Gabo Foundation, and POY Latam, where she is also a member of the Advisory Board.
It is equally urgent to expand our gaze toward the Global South, not to reaffirm a geography of marginality, but to recognize the historical, cultural, political, and epistemic strength of territories and communities that, despite having been labeled as underdeveloped by hegemonic narratives, hold living ancestries, forms of resistance, and essential knowledge for imagining more just and sustainable futures in the face of the systemic crisis affecting both human societies and the environment, says Maíra.
As part of RIZOMA, she will lead the course Imaginaries in Dispute: Photography, Visual Narratives, and Counter-Visuality in the Global South.
